DESIGN CASE STUDIES - Bangalore Open 2006

Identity Designed by Midas

Identity in Use (Court)
  The Challenge

This Tier-III International Women's Tennis Tournament was the biggest tennis event of the decade for Bangalore with the reigning sporting sensation, Sania Mirza. participating. The plan was to market the event as a major landmark in the city's event calendar. But there was a yawning gap between one-day cricket and tennis in the paying public's mind. The situation with the sponsoring companies and the media was no better. The visual identity had to project the tournament as truly world-class, only then would anyone take notice.

The Solution

The logo had to take a quantum leap , overstepping possible improvements on the standard Indian sporting event logos. It had to be simple, uncluttered and yet powerful and memorable. The playful element with the "O" of Bangalore Open overlapping with the zero of 2006 made things click into place. The logo was simple, elegant and yet had enough intrigue to hold your attention. Caught by the television cameras on the court walls during the matches, it was an outright winner.
