This Tier-III International Women's Tennis Tournament in 2006 was
the biggest tennis event of the decade for Bangalore with the reigning
sporting sensation, Sania Mirza. participating. The plan was to
market the event as a major landmark in the city's event calendar.
But there was a yawning gap between one-day cricket and tennis in
the paying public's mind. The situation with the sponsoring companies
and the media was no better. The challenge was to market the event
aggressively and create a buzz among the public and potential sponsors.
We started with the visual identity, which, we believed, had
to project the tournament as truly world-class. The logo we created
was simple, elegant and yet had enough intrigue to hold your attention.
It was an outright winner from the start. We planned the mega-event
and supervised its successful staging, being involved with a gamut
of activities - from the design of all promotional material to
conceptualizing the ground event ( with stalls by companies like
Lotto, Malabar Gold, Mercedes, Tata Indicom and Eva Mall), scouting
for sponsors, driving corporate ticket sales and coordinating
press coverage.
